Tourist Trains and Pets

There are various tourist trains that are not subject to the National Rail Conditions of Carriage for pets (see our Pets & Trains guidance note).

Alderney Railway Alderney, Channel Islands The only railway in the Channel Islands - it's only a short stretch of line and it would not be a problem to take a dog on board but please keep your dogs on a lead. No additional charge for dogs
Bala Lake Railway Gwynedd, Wales Dogs permitted No additional charge for dogs
Bluebell Railway West Sussex Dogs welcome (except in food areas) No additional charge for dogs
Cambrian Coast Railway Gwynedd, Wales Dogs welcome No additional charge for dogs
Corris Railway Powys, Wales Dogs welcome in museum, shop & on trains.  Dogs must be on leads No additional charge for dogs
Derwent Valley Light Railway North Yorkshire Dogs welcome on leads No additional charge for dogs
East Lancs Railway Lancashire Dogs permitted on leads & as long as other passengers are not inconvenienced.  No additional charge for dogs.
East Somerset Railway Somerset Dogs permitted, as long as well behaved and on leads at all times No additional charge for dogs
Embsay & Bolton Steam Railway North Yorkshire Dogs permitted, but must be kept off the seats No additional charge for dogs
Esk Valley Railway North Yorkshire Dogs welcome, including on summer music train evenings No additional charge for dogs
Exbury Steam Railway Hampshire Dogs permitted on leads.  Leaflet given on arrival showing location of dog bins No additional charge for dogs
Ffestiniog Railway Snowdonia, Wales Dogs welcome, except in 1st class portions of train Flat fare of £2.50 per dog
Isle of Mull Rail Isle of Mull, Scotland Dogs welcome No additional charge for dogs
Kent & East Sussex Railway Kent & East Sussex Well-behaved dogs welcome, except in areas serving food £1 per dog per journey
Lappa Valley Steam Railway Cornwall Dogs welcome, must be kept on leads 50p per dog
Llanberis Lake Railway Gwynedd, Wales Dogs permitted at company's discretion 50p per dog
Midhants Railway Watercress Line Hampshire Dogs allowed, must be on leads and sit under tables on trains £1 per dog for all day Rover ticket (!!)
North Yorkshire Moors Railway North Yorkshire Dogs allowed but must keep off seats.  Dogs on leads also allowed in engine sheds at Grosmont. £2 per dog
Rheilffordd Talyllyn Railway Gwynedd, Wales Dogs permitted £3 charge per dog
Ribble Steam Railway Merseyside Dogs welcome No additional charge for dogs
Snowdon Mountain Railway Snowdon Mountain Registered assistance dogs only No charge for assistance dogs
South Downs Light Railway Pulborough, West Sussex Dogs welcome No additional charge for dogs
Spa Valley Railway Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent Dogs welcome (but warning that you cannot travel to Groombridge Place as dogs are prohibited there) No additional charge for dogs
Stansted Light Railway Stansted House, Sussex Guide dogs only No charge for guide dogs
The Cambrian Steam Railway Gwynedd, Wales Dogs allowed No additional charge for dogs
The Fairbourne Steam Railway Gwynedd, Wales Dogs permitted No additional charge for dogs
The Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway Kent Dogs welcome 50p per dog per day
Welsh Highland Railway, Caernarfon Gwynedd, Wales Dogs welcome, but are not permitted in 1st class portions of trains Flat fare £2.50 per dog

Wensleydale Railway North Yorkshire Dogs welcome, maximum 1 dog per fee paying adult No additional charge for dogs
